Logos dictionary

It can be considered as one of the widest, if not the widest, linguistic resources which are currently available online, and it is totally free of charge. You can find more than 8 million words translated into 232 different languages. The consultation process is intuitive and can be personalised. The main feature of this project is its on-going and growing development thanks to the joint work of many translators, linguists and enthusiastic people all over the world together with the Logos clients. This is a never ending project which will always be perfectible, and therefore living. In order to cooperate actively, it is necessary to log in as Professional Users and to get in touch with the staff (logosdic@logos.net) to get the proper privileges that vary depending on your own linguistic background.

The functions of the Logos dictionary

All matches

This function can find the word in all its positions inside the Dictionary both within a sentence (like proverbs or idiomatic expressions) and in an isolated position (i.e. just the word and nothing more).

Exact match

This function can find only the word itself, just as it has been entered.

Beginning with

This function can find all terms and expressions which begin exactly with the letters you have entered.

Ending with

This function, unlike the previous one, can find all the words or expressions ending with the letters entered. It can be a useful instrument for poets and songwriters to find rhymes.

Help

If it is necessary, the function “Help” is able to give all the instructions about the instrument you are using.

The function context can be used to find a word in its proper context, in an extract of Wordtheque, the Logos multimedia library.

The function translation shows the translation of the word entered.

The function image shows an image that is associated with the word in question.

The function sound allows you to hear the right pronunciation of the word in question.
