myTerm

In this section it is possible to check terminology, look up terms and insert new terms into the glossaries.

Used in combination with the other terminology and translation tools, myContext and myTM, this area gives users complete control over terminology and the translation memory.

The three tools are closely interconnected. The myTerm tool can be used to search for a term inside the terminology database. Once the term has been identified, the corresponding translation can be displayed in all the available languages.

Looking up a term

To look up a term in myTerm, proceed as follows.

  1. Open the myTerm tool.
  2. In the myTermwindow, enter the term in the Term field (in the example given, the term being looked up is "rating plate").
  3. (Optional) Select a product group.
  4. Specify the language.
  5. Select the type of search.
  6. Click on the Search button.

  7. In the next window, select the desired result (in the example given below, only one item is listed, although multiple search results are possible).

The headword window

The headword window may be accessed using the procedure described in the previous section.

This window represents the central point shared by all three terminology and translation tools. From this window it is possible to display the translation of a particular term, check the context in which it is found in the translation database and check the segments in which it appears in a bilingual translation memory.

This section explains how to access the translation of the chosen term.

  1. In the headword window, click on the Translation button.
  2. In the resulting window it is possible to check the translation of the headword in all available languages.

With sufficient access privileges, it is possible to edit an existing term or insert a new term.

Inserting a new term

In order to insert a new term, proceed as follows:

  1. Log into the system as an administrator, using the username and password provided by Logos.
  2. Click on the Submit button.
  3. Search for a word in myTerm.
  4. If the word does not exist in the database, a message informs you that it can be inserted. Click on the Add button.
  5. Complete all the relevant fields and click on the Save button.
  6. The new headword for the inserted term is displayed.

Downloading glossaries

From the integrated MyTerm interface it is also possible to download a bilingual glossary containing all terms and their translations.

To download glossaries, proceed as follows:

  1. Access the myTerm interface.
  2. On the left side of the window, click on the Download Glossaries button.
  3. Note - only users with administrator privileges are authorised to download glossaries.
  4. Click on the link which corresponds to the desired language.

A .zip file is then downloaded, which contains a file in HTML format with the following columns: term, translation and product line.
